A Lap Of The Blogs

If you are new to WhereDoesAllMyMoneyGo.com, every Friday I run a post called “A Lap Of The Blogs” which provides links to articles I found interesting and think that others may want to read for themselves. I also include some commentary on what’s going on in my personal life and a weekly “racing video” since my former life was in the auto-racing industry. The name “Lap of the Blogs” is in reference to “A Lap Of The Gods” which is an old video series which chronicled on-board footage of the world’s greatest F1 drivers lapping various racetracks from around the world.

I’m very happy to say that tomorrow our office will be hosting a BBQ in support of the Terry Fox Foundation and the new Tour of Hope. Someone found the original van that accompanied Terry during his original Tour of Hope and it has been restored and is re-creating Terry Fox’s route across Canada along with members of the Fox family and friends. You can follow the new Tour HERE to see if it’s coming to a community near you. You can make a donation to the Terry Fox Foundation HERE.

The Canadian Capitalist lists the Money Movies he plans to watch this summer. The best part of this list is that I have more ideas for movies to add to the Money Movie Giveaways I run every two months. For those who don’t know, I giveaway a DVD copy of a movie about money (or that has it as a central theme), every two months and the next round is starting at the end of this month.

Larry MacDonald wonders if the done deal on BCE going private is in fact a done deal.

Michael James on Money explains that the current price of BCE stock implies the market still thinks there is a possibility of the deal not closing at $42.75.

The Million Dollar Journey lists the top No Fee Rewards Credit Cards in Canada.

Thicken My Wallet lists the Rules of Money.

Squawkfox hosted the Festival of Frugality which included a link to The Cost of Smoking Calculator I wrote recently.

This Week’s Racing Video

I found some old footage of what some would argue is the greatest racing driver who ever lived, driving a Honda NSX (there’s no such thing as Acura in Japan) around Suzuka. In loafers. For those unfamiliar with race-driving techniques, you’ll notice that he uses his right foot to use the brakes and gas at the same time during downshifting. This is known as heel-and-toe downshifting. When the gearbox is in neutral, by bringing the engine speed up to match the gear speed of the next lower gear when braking, the car doesn’t jerk during the engagement of the next gear. Smoother gear shifts means the car doesn’t spin out when at the limit of traction. The video is approx 2:30 long. Feed readers can click here to view the video.
