In case you missed it, I announced that I was taking a week off to visit my brother in Los Angeles and that I would skip writing to the blog. I really needed that vacation.
It’s amazing how quickly the week flew by. In lieu of regular programming, I thought I would share some photos from the past week… You can click on them to enlarge. Enjoy!
For the extra lazy, you can now buy electronics from vending machines in LAX.
The reason for the visit: to meet my new nephew Kayton. This picture was taken the day he was born.
Here I am shortly after meeting him for the first time. He is cute beyond words.
…and here he is waving at me. Okay, not really. Just an involuntary arm spasm.
A friend (who is obsessed with bacon) told me to find this mobile bacon truck that only sells bacon related dishes. For now you can only track them down via twitter. I found the buggers in NoHo (North Hollywood).
This is their menu. The tape means they were sold out of those items. Which is crazy because they had only been open for a few hours by the time I found them.
You would think a nutella-bacon-brownie would be wierd, but it really works!
Behold the “bacone”. A cone of three different types of bacon. Pig bacon, duck bacon, and boar bacon.
I took a picture of this only because of the bacon saga. I found this in a separate store and just thought it was odd. Band-aids that look like bacon?
A friend of mine (in Toronto) was considering buying this 1994 Morgan Plus 8 which was located a whole 8 minutes from where we were staying in Santa Monica so we went to go check it out for him. Not only has it never seen snow or salt, it’s never even seen RAIN.
A buddy of mine who’s working in LA on a TV show is staying at a nice place near the Grove. One wall of this house has this mural of famous stars watching a movie. Everyone who visits the house takes an obligatory photo, and we added the 3D glasses to make it more in keeping with the times. (No, I did not pull the ol’ cut the bottom out of the popcorn bag trick.) :P
Behold the K-Swiss “Tubes” as promoted by Kenny Powers. If you don’t know who that is, you’re probably best to NOT look it up.
What do you get in the middle of the night + noises from the bathroom + powerful flash from the iPhone 4? Zombie cat.
That’s about 7 days worth of vacation beard.
Fiona and I bought Kayton this little outfit, but somehow my mother and Fiona decided we should make him pose like a pimp with a gold chain. Voila: pimp baby.
Just ‘cuz he’s a cute little fella.
There’s been a fad for a couple of years to use a “matte” paint on cars. No reflectiveness at all. Here we see it on a Ferrari. It looks really good in person actually.
We went to a taping of The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. When in Rome… The guests that night were Ben Affleck, Julie Bowen (from Modern Family), and Weezer.
Here was the lineup before the show for ticket-holders. Having a ticket does not guarantee entry though.
After Leno, we hit the famous Pink’s Hotdog Stand. The only time I’ve had to eat a hotdog with a knife and fork. As you can see, one even came with Nachos ON TOP OF IT.
They were no match for a man taking a break from his detox diet.
As we were leaving LAX, I had to take a pic of a See’s Candies store. This is one of Warren Buffett’s investments. Note the spartan motif. Seems like something Warren would be proud of.
